When is intuit shutting down the efile system for the 2024 filing season?
Intuit doesn't shut it down; the IRS does.
Looks like they closed today.
I cannot efile. Why did Proseries shut down early, before the IRS?
The Intuit Electronic Filing Center will stop accepting e-file transmissions shortly before the IRS shutdown to help ensure that all sent returns are received by the agency.

Its not uncommon for software companies to have an earlier shut down than IRS.
okay, so I get it that it may not be unusual for the software company to shut down before the IRS does however.... IT IS UNUSUAL FOR THE SOFTWARE COMPANY NOT TO COMMUNICATE WITH ITS SUBSCRIBERS THAT THEY WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN EARLIER THAN THE IRS!!!!! THIS IS TOTALLY RIDICULOS!!!
We Received notification on the alerts at the top of the software on November 21st, well in advance of the shut down.
I was also caught off-guard by yesterday's deadline by Intuit. I do not recall any such "alert" in November about this. When I check my "Alerts" today, I only have one, and it's about a conference coming up in January. Obviously the shutdown deadline is much more important! I think it is VERY DISAPPOINTING that we had no advance notice, and I cannot check my prior alerts for any relevant news about this topic. Even if they sent an "alert" a month ago, it would be helpful to send it again a week before the shutdown.
Dave, my 2024 software doesnt seem to save the Alerts either, I looked and all I saw was one from Dec 18th about a virtual conference, I know there have been other alerts though, I just cant see them.
Insanity... I've been checking the IRS MeF status page constantly the past few weeks leading up to the 26th shutdown. I had no idea I should have been preparing for intuit's cutoff four days ahead of the IRS shutdown. Suggestion to intuit for next year: send an email with the subject line "NOTICE OF INTUIT E-FILE SHUTDOWN PRIOR TO IRS MEF SHUTDOWN ON [month - day]". You can do that using some of the budget you use to send my staff and I job offers.
Good to know: Prosystem fx is still processing returns.
I tried e-filing a 1040x last night and it was rejected. I thought the IRS shutdown was 12/26/25 at 11:59 AM. I called Lacerte but the support office is closed.
Very very disappointing. Intuit never informed either by email or by alerts. I have been following IRS guidelines. I understand Intuit needs some time before IRS shutdown. But not 4 days in advance. We pay so much & why cannot you send an email or alert. Maybe it is time to explore other software providers. Highly upset & disappointed.
@bfs1040 alerts were sent out.. both here and in the software.
Prove it with dates. When did they send the alerts to software, if at all???
Someone posted that it was 11/21 the alert went out, but for some reason my 2024 software isnt saving alerts like it used to, I only see one but I know theres been more!
Hello All,
Thanks for posting in the Community about the e-file shut down. We checked on this and ProSeries did have an in-product alert on 11/21/2025 notifying users of the shutdown. In addition, there have been Community banner notifications posted to help raise awareness of the dates.
For future reference this support article is a helpful one to bookmark, as it outlines the official timelines each year:
E-file start and stop dates for federal returns
We've heard the feedback, given it to the right team and as a result, they have plans to add an additional in-product alert to help make these deadlines even more visible. We appreciate you all taking the time to raise this concern as it helps us improve how we communicate important updates going forward.
