My client tells me a portion of his NJ PFRS pension is not taxable in NJ for the first three years of collecting it. He made bi-weekly contributions during his career. But, he is unable to come up with the total contribution amount.
A NJ pension fact sheet does not give many specifics.
Can anyone offer some guidance ?
Tell him to do more research. Ex employer or the pension board should have it. Actually there is a place for it on the 1099R.
Thank you for your help
He needs to contact the NJ Division of Pensions. They have a letter with the pension information including total contributions.
