Is there a way to automatically mark me, the preparer as 3rd party designee on all returns I file without checking the box in the return individually?

Yes, from within a client file, Tools > Options > Miscellaneous    it only applies to new clients

I did that, but I notice that it still does not automatically check the box for 3rd party designee within the return.

It only applies to new clients, so if this was a client file that you transferred from 2021, it wont pick it up by default.

It checks that box for all my clients, but then shows that it is an error, so I uncheck it for everyone.  No one at IRS ever is willing to talk to me anyway, without a PoA.
