IPPIN

Got a return rejected.

Dependent/Qualifying person IPPIN provided on the return is not valid.

I didn't enter any IPPIN for the dependent. Also if he does have IPPIN where do you enter it on the worksheet for the dependent?

You enter dependent  ID PIN on dependents first name line on right next to age. With all ID PIN's you need a new one each year. Cannot use one from last year. If never issued ID PIN I would check spelling of last name and SS number, and resubmit. If rejected again you will probably have to mail in.

First make sure you don't have a blank ghosted character in the IPPIN box for the dependent, its right on the same line where you enter all the dep info.

This client has been with me for the past 3 years with the same dependents. Never had any issue. Never had IPPIN.

Thats why Im saying, if it says its Invalid, maybe you've got a blank/ghosted space (you accidently hit the space bar) in that IPPIN box for the dependent and its picking it up as an invalid character in the space.

did you check with the client that they didn't get one for the kid during the year? maybe they had an id theft issue or they just heard it was a good idea to have one?

Had one fail for pin a few weeks ago - client claimed they had no idea what I was talking about - they called the number on the reject and guess what - they have a PIN number.

How do I check if I have a ghosted space in the IPPIN box for the dependent or not? How do you get rid of it?
