how to amend prior year return using current year software

Im not sure you can very easily, the tax tables and deductions wont be correct for the year.

I think you can change the year and just use it as a glorified typewriter, but as Lisa points out, you'll have to do all of the calculations by hand.  The best option is to use the software for the tax year that you're amending.
