Is the taxpayer address in any of the listed countries where a US citizen is a resident? The program may be keying off the address.

I didn't know there was a box, when would SS benefits be exempt?

There are countries that have treaties with the US that allow SS to be exempt.

In ProSeries Basic the box is on the SS income entry worksheet.

I swear the program randomly checked the box on 3 returns ( so far) I prepared…

I admit I should have noticed in  review but …..**bleep**!

Not intended to offer you chuckles but I hear you.

No…that is why I ask the question….I do maybe 50 returns with Social Security  earnings…all in the same zip code…3 had the box checked…. I do not believe I checked it while entering SS earnings… but ?

I have not had that happen, Im using Professional though, I know if you use the key board Enter or Tab key to go through the lines, all it takes is to accidently hit the space as you tab past it and the box will check.
