Client is a teacher in the Palm Beach County school system and the Form W-2 shows an amount in Box 14 coded "FRS" for contributions to the Florida Retirement System. The amount shown reduces the FICA/Medicare wages to arrive at taxable wages. How should it be coded as a Box 12 item to accomplish the correct treatment?

Box 14 is informational.
You do not need to enter anything into Box 12.
Generally the amount contributed is subject to FICA/Medicare and Box 1 of the W2 form is less than box 3 & 5. The difference in the totals should be the amount in Box 14.
If you have the "Automatically calculate ..." box checked it will not compute correctly unless the item we are discussing is entered in Box 12.
Uncheck autocalculate and enter the amounts from the W2 form,
Thank you for your input. I was aware of that choice, but hoped to leave the automatic entry box checked.
You can leave the box checked and just overwrite the amount to match the W2 form.
Overwriting is never a good idea, just a last resort. Again, thank you for your input.
Your are not OVERRIDING the amount in box 3 and 5 your are over writing it.
But you are trying to make up a box 12 entry so that your numbers will match, just enter the correct numbers from the W-2 form in box 3 & 5.
