I have often wondered.  If I e-file a return the night of the 15th...at say 11:30 pm, and then it gets rejected at 12:05 am on the 16th, how does the IRs know I have grace days to correct the mistake and re-submit without being penalized?

I'm pretty sure the IRS computers can tell time ---------- even if its agents may struggle with that task. 😀

When you efile a return it gets an electronic postmark.

The more I know, the more I don't know.
