Is it just my imagination or do several companies have people working in the payroll department that don't know their you know what from a hole in the ground.
Right now as you are reading this I am holding up filing three different tax returns because of problems with W2's.
I wont bore you with what those problems are except to say there is absolutely no reasons at all for those problems to exist.
Sure people are human and therfor make mistakes but if proper procedure is used there is no reason why those mistakes are not spotted and the w2's are not released untill the errors are corrected.
This is why I taught Payroll as its own course, separate from the QuickBooks classes. Because Intuit's QB book has a chapter that seems to indicate they expect you to teach how to use QB and payroll in just a 15 minute lesson. The first time I tried to teach that lesson, I realized we needed to cover the basics, for nearly everyone in the class. I got the Payroll class down to 4 hours and was pretty proud of that.
And I never understood why the IRS is broke. All the mistakes I saw in my classroom for what people brought from their offices, you would think the agents could collect enough in corrections, penalties, late fees, to cover the national debt.
