I have a client that came early in late January to do his taxes before Proseries updated and automatically detected the overtime codes when entered in box 14. At that point "overtime" was not one of the options from the dropdown menu. The client called about the balance he owed because he wanted to pay it off before the 15th, and when I went into the return that was accepted back in January, it now shows an error Part VII, 14d. If I fix the error given the updates since then, it actually lowers the taxpayer's balance. I checked other returns that were accepted during the same time frame and the same is happening. In some cases, it actually increases the refund. Do I need to submit an amended return for those returns or is that something the IRS will correct?
