Does anyone know why we cannot efile a NJ non resident return when on NJ website they says Intuit Proseries is an approved vendor and has been since 2023 for NJ 1040 individual & business and NJ 1040NR.
He files a PA return, which I used to attach to NJ and so his wages are not taxable to NJ and he receives everything he paid NJ. Client does not like the fact it has to be mailed for obvious reason and then it takes till July to September for his refund and he has to pay PA by 04/15/26. Last 2 years I have gone directly onto NJ website and filed them but that isn't taking 2025. Proseries says its NJ, NJ says its proseries. Last year 1st client went and after that I had to do online or they had to mail
Thank you spoke to a support person and he said it isn't allowed.
NJ and PA have reciprocity. There must have been incorrect NJ withholdings (reflecting NJ withholdings) on his PA W2? That may be what is triggering having to mail the return.
With that said, there is also a NJ Form I believe you have to file, NJ 165:
Employee’s Certificate of Nonresidence In New Jersey, Form NJ-165
After attaching that form, see if it allows the efile. I don't think it will, but give it a shot.
You have to attach your completed PA 40 to the NJ Non-Resident return, showing that you taxed all income if you do mail the NJ Non-Resident return.
