IRS rejected e-file on May 17 after Intuit accepted - late filing penalty?

I e-filed a client's return on May 17th and it was accepted by Intuit.  On May 18th I found out that IRS had rejected it.  I fixed the issue and resubmitted it on May 18th.  Intuit and IRS accepted and I have confirmation.  Is return considered timely filed?
