Identity PIN

I e-filed a client's tax return but it was rejected due to the fact that one of their dependents filed on their own and claimed themselves.  They have since amended their return indicating that they are not able to claim themselves.  The return is still getting rejected; is it really necessary if the amendment has been acknowledged that the parent's obtain a PIN for their daughter?

Thank you, Yvonne

The IPPIN will just allow the parents return to get accepted electronically, to save the hassle and issues with mailing it in....they'll still have to deal with the follow up/delay of refund until the childs amended return gets processed.

And the person that said they got it cleared up in 4 weeks, youre an exception to the rule, amended returns are taking months and months to process.

From other discussions here I think the parent needs to obtain an IP PIN in order to efile.

How does an IP PIN solve the problem?  Everyone acknowledges that the kid used his own identity to file a return.  The fact that the amended return has been received does not mean it has been processed.  Adjustments are still made manually, FIFO.  It's another example of the charge of the IRS brigade.  "Theirs not to reason why, / Theirs but to do and die."

This also happened to one of my clients. The dependent amended the tax return stating she could be filed on someone else's tax return. It took 4 weeks for that to process for the dependent and then I was able to E-file the Parents return. At this point you will need to do an Extension for the Parents and wait until the amended is processed.

I thought the Pin was required for the dependent who filed incorrectly and has since amended his return?  Are you saying the parents need to get the PIN to file?  That would certainly make it easier.  They just need to set up an IRS account and request it correct?  This return has been a royal pain in my !!!

Do the parents have the option of mailing in the return with their payments to get this over with?
