The update on 3/10 was supposed to finalize form 8379. The form is still showing an error and says update available now but it doesn't update and I can't finish this return. I have refreshed updates and used the proseries tool hub. Any ideas?

Try filing it. I sent one yesterday evening with conversion error checking left ON, it transmitted fine with no errors, and was accepted shortly thereafter.
Give it a shot!.
