I missed attaching form 475(F) to use the mark-to-market accounting method for securities trading for 2026 when I e-filed my 2025 tax return, can I mail it by 4/15 to have it in effect for tax year 2026 ? Or any other ways to do by 4/15 have it in effect for tax year 2026 ?

This is what the IRS says. Link. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc429

As a trader, you must make the mark-to-market election by the due date (not including extensions) of the tax return for the year prior to the year for which you intend the election to become effective. Thanks, but that topic does not answer my question. Is anyone familiar with filing form 475(F), particularly in my situation?

I don't think there is actually a 475(F) Form.

Sounds like you can file a Superseding return by April 15 and attach the 475(f) election.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

@ChiHoang 475 (f) is not a form, but an election, under section 475 (f) where you elect mark to market method of accounting. If you go to the site I gave you it will answer your question, but you do have to acually read it

That's what I thought. Thanks

@Terry53029 "you do have to acually read it" Quite graceful. 😀
