Hi,
I am trying to get a foreign property to depreciate over 30 years straight line. I was wondering if someone can tell me the entries and coding that I have to do to make it work.
Thanks
First, confirm that 40 years is correct. Is this Nonresidential Real Property? Or Residential Rental Property that was placed in service before 2018 (after 2017 would be 30 years)?
On the Asset Entry Worksheet, scroll WAY down to the bottom. I *THINK* it is the one called depreciation "method" that you need to change to "Alternative" (or maybe it is "Alt"). That will change it to ADS depreciation (which is required for foreign property).
Yes you are correct. 30 years
In asset class - I put an R
Deprec Method - Alt
It defaults to 30 recovery period.
