Excess Social Security and Medicare Taxes Withheld on 1040

I am seeing payments being applied on the 1040 for excess social security and medicare.

I can't understand if these amounts are automatically flowing and how to even verify if they are correct.

Specifically, line 25 c and line 31 on the 1040

Can someone help me understand where these figures are flowing from in the software, if any manual entries need to be made, and how it is calculated (assuming simply based on W-2 entries)?

No such thing as excess medicare anymore.  As far as SS, program calculates it and it shows up on the payment section of the 1040.

Make sure you have the W-2's coded correctly (taxpayer vs spouse).   Not doing so can 'falsely' create a SS overwithheld situation.

High earners have additional (not excess) Medicare tax withheld. That appears on the 1040 on one of those lines and is shown on Form 8959

The more I know the more I don’t know.

And then often they get some or all of it back.  See Form 8959, Line 24.
