When you EFile from out in the EFCenter, it pops up a box the Convert and Transmit, down at the bottom of that window it has an option to Enable Error Checking...its checked by default, if you uncheck it, you can send a return with an error. Im not sure if that same box is shown if you EF from within a return (I only ever EF from out in the EFCenter of Homebase.
what type of return is this that has the issue?
Federal individual return on the Federal information worksheet
new client or existing client transferred from 2023? Im trying to see if I can replicate it
Transferred client from 2023, when Third Party Designee is checked on Info Worksheet Error code comes up saying "3rd party designee phone should be entered. The phone number from the related preparer code will be used if entered in the Firm/Preparer info Section" It is in fact on there and I've never had this prob before but I filled it in anyway and then a new error came up saying "3rd party designee should be left blank". The only way around it was to uncheck 3rd party designee
Try deleting the Personal Identification Number under the Designee's name and phone number. Let it repopulate on its own. This has worked for me. Maybe uncheck and check the box.
Thanks for the info but I tried both things but it didnt work. I also tried deleting the phone number from the Firm info and type it back in but that didnt work either. Guess I'll just "click off" as Third Party Designee. But thanks for your reply
Its a year later and Im having the same problem again on Pro Series basic. In addition I cant just click off of 3rd party designee cause its still saying "Firm code for preparer does NOT exist' when Ive always used 001 for Firm 1 of a self employed preparer. Any one have any new ideas?
Im guessing youve checked the preparer code in Frim/Preparer information to make sure it didnt some how truncate your 3 digit preparer code?
Do you have this box checked in Tools >Options > Miscellaneous?
(you need to be inside a client file to see the Misc choice in Options)
Yes, I tried that and other things with all your help LAST year and we were not able to resolve the issue. So I just unchecked the "Paid Preparer is 3rd party designee" Box. The error went away but I didn't have the 3rd party feature. It came up again this year so I'm unchecking it again, and at least the error goes away.
But I've got an additional problem this year. I've got an error code that reads "Firm code for preparer does not exist". I tried everything to resolve that error with no luck. So I called the Intuit help line and talked to Cynthia for about 1/2 hour yesterday and she was very patient in trying a number of different ways to resolve it, most of which I already tried. The firm preparer code is 1 which is correct while the error code still says it doesnt exist. The 1 shows black and when I changed it to a 2 and the 2 turned red showing it really an error. Long story short, she suggested that when I try to transmit and it shows an error she says a box will come up to send anyway if I'm sure there is no error.
So I guess my question to you is: will this allow me to transmit starting the 26th, I never heard of this override? If not I'm out of business!

Thanks again for your help Lisa, I've always e-filed from inside the return. So I went to through Homebase to check on this option and I dont have it, must be cause I have Pro Series Basic?
OK, I only have an older 2022 copy of Basic to look at, but I think this is where youd find the option....sadly, my home system isnt set up for EFiling, so it wont let me see the screen when I choose the red circled option. Can you find this menu choice?
