My understanding is that the EITC applies only if the parents (tax payers) have social security numbers. I know there are income and filing status guidelines as well. However, a couple of clients with Individual Income Tax Numbers (ITIN) indicate that the most recent legislation passed allows these taxpayers to receive the EITC. I've done some reading and attended a couple of webinars but I don't recall this being a change. I still believe that the tax payers have to have a SSN and not an ITIN. Maybe I missed something.
