Cx sold an investment property in CA but lives in WA. Does he have to file an CA return?

I think he does but am not quite 100% sure.

Yes.  CA Non resident return.

Except that you can't do a CA extension unless you owe money to CA and have paid it.

If you file an extension with a CA refund due, CA won't accept your extension.

Now I have to figure out how much my client owes CA and make sure he sends that money in now.  

Argh, I don't have time to do his whole return.

I think I'm going to take up gardening, instead of taxes. 😋

If they have a refund or no balance due, no extension is needed, so yes, get an idea of how much he'll owe and get him to mail in that 3519 with a check.

Im not sure it can be done online at the FTB website without having filed a 2020 CA return.
