Alternative calculation rarely helps much,  if at all.

Married Separate might make more sense if a large PTC payback is happening filing jointly.

What do you mean by recalculate?

The Alternative Calculation for year of marriage on Form 8962 does not always help the result.

Why do you think it is calculating incorrectly?  Have you manually calculated and get a different result than the program?

As Lisa said, in many cases the Alternative Calculation does not reduce the repayment.  But it depends on the specific circumstances.
