Transferred 2024 files in January 2026 to Basic 2025. Today I realized I was missing a client in the Home Base. Checked 2024 home base and the file wasn't there either. Did the home base file maintenance. The missing file name showed up and was reported as "Fixed". Went back to homebase in 2024 the file is still missing. When I go to the folder with Basic PS Data I see only the cache file. I checked 2023 and that client is there as I would normally have expected it to be.
How can I restore this file so that I can transfer to 2025?
I guess the first question would be. Do you have a backup copy of the 2024 file? If not, I’d start by doing a search of my computer for the file name. Sometimes files magically get misplaced. I’d also look in the 2024 program to see if the tax return still exists or not. Finding none I would transfer the 2023 file to tax year 2024 and then to 2025. If the 2024 tax return had any kind of complexity to it I’d probably recreate it before transferring to 2025. The alternative would be to enter a brand new client file in 2025 and just start over
Thank you for your response.
The only file in the program Homebase data folder is the cache file. Last night, after exhausting all the recommended steps on Intuit's site I ended up doing exactly what you recommended - since 2023 was still intact I transferred 2023 to 2024 and will transfer 2024 to 2025 today. Thankfully, the client file is relatively simple. A very basic schedule C. Backing up homebase manually today and checking my local backup to ensure it's working. Searching through the backups takes as much time as keying in 2024 information. 2025 hasn't been prepared yet.
“Losing” files, emails, texts, and my glasses have become an occupational hazard. Used to live by the “they’ll turn up” creed but have turned to workarounds as my patience wanes.
Glad to help.
