Can somebody advise how to request a late filing penalty waiver?

Completely my fault, not making any excuse. Could not complete clients 1065 in time because laptop was stolen had no backup and with birth of new child could not get taxes done on time. Now IRS is sending out late filing penalty. Never been late before. Can somebody advise if you had similar situation and how to request a waiver?

If it was the first offense, the IRS will normally waive the penalty.  If not, tell them the truth and ask for forgiveness.

Altho, using up the client's FTA ('cuz you really only get one) to cover your OWN mistake might be frowned upon.

Yes, I agree with Ironman....FTA's usually work well for first time.
