My client is requesting a change in accounting period from December to June. November 15 is the due date for us to e-file both a 2023 calendar year Form 990 and a 2024 Form 990 for the short period ending June 30, 2024.
The short year 2024 Form 990 will have to be submitted using ProSeries 2023. An extension is not allowed for a short period return when requesting a change in accounting period.
Has anyone successfully e-filed a short year Form 990 using the prior year form? The ProSeries representative I spoke with said I can try turning off the error check prior to e-filing, but I'm not confident that will work.
