Can a rental loss from NJ (non resident state) be reported in NYS return?

My client has a rental loss in NJ but lives in New York.  Proseries is not giving me an option to allocate the rental loss solely to NJ (non resident state) and exclude it from NYS return.

Can i include this loss in his resident state (NYS), and not file a tax return for NJ?  Thanks

No. All income/loss is reportable on the resident state return.

Rental income/loss from NJ property is reportable on the NJ tax return. If there is double tax, taxpayer will get a credit on NY for tax paid to NJ.

The more I know, the more I don't know.
