Filing starts in late January.  Planning starts now, yesterday.  It would be nice if the company would post a date to expect the software so that we can do what we need to to in order to help our clients with planning.  Too bad the website doesn't even give a way to find out.

Although it comes out in early November, the EARLIEST it would be useful for planning is mid-December.  But that tends to be hit-and-miss; unfortunately, it very often isn't useful until early-to-mid-January.

Don't you remember the commercials that Orson Welles did for Intuit?  "We will sell no software before its time."

HA!  "We will sell no software before its time."  That's laughable.  They already sold it, it's been paid for for at least a month.

Ouch!  Payment that early?  I don't pay for mine til November.

I wasn't ready, but Sept. 26 is what I see.

I keep the counter on my desk.

Planning isn't possible without having the 2025 software available on September 26th?  I remember back in the day when we would have to walk uphill, both ways, to get a tax projection done without the aid of any software.  Personally, if I needed a projection done on September 26th I would use the 2024 tax planner and tweak for anything that the software hasn't updated yet for 2025.  I never load the following year software until at least early January ----------- when it is "starting" to get closer to being a functional software.

Tax planning, or tax arithmetic?  Looking at the forest to decide how best to maximize profits from lumber, or just to count the trees?

I remember having to walk uphill both ways to the Post Office to get forms and fill them in by hand.  I remember building depreciation schedules by hand on Wilson brand 18 or 24 columnar paper.  With the advent of computerized spreadsheets (remember Lotus123??), I built my own planning worksheets based on hand written forms we had developed prior to that.  WOW!  Talk about cooking with gas!!  Much better than using buffalo chips or coal.

I've gotten tired and cranky in my old age.  The fact that ProSeries now costs several thousand dollars, paid in mid-summer in order to take advantage of discounts, makes this cranky old guy wonder about the efficiency of it all.  I did use the 2024 software to build a plan for a taxpayer who needed some pretty accurate numbers, nice that the latest update includes some of the changes.  And I still check it for reasonableness with my old spreadsheet. Caveat emptor.

I just finished our own returns, and in the Tax Planner for 2025 I see that we get a $12,000 deduction just for being old! (The 2024 software is updated.)
