On the 1099-R Worksheet just below line 17 the is a section that says RMD- If this is a RMD -entire gross is RMD (checkbox) or the amount of gross that's RMD.
My question is when would you use this? Most clients we have no idea if it's an RMD but assume investment advisors are on top of this.

Maybe IRS asked the software vendors to start training the monkeys to track this now, so that next year they can add a question to returns, "Were you required to take a minimum distribution from a retirement plan?"
For now it's much more important to ask if anyone owns Bitcoin.
