I am beating my head against my desk. Something so simple is making me crazy. I am trying to amend a 1040 for a client who should not have claimed a dependent. I pull up the original return, do I make changes to the original return and take out the dependent that should have not been claimed?? Or just do this on the 1040X, original amounts and the corrected amounts. I efiled the amended and am getting an error that the 1040x amounts do not match the original amounts. They shouldn't match the original because I am changing them???

You need to make changes to the original AFTER you have checked the box on the Form 1040X for tax year being amended. The program automatically fills in original and correct amounts.

You enter the original amount received on the 1040X if it did not flow through
