Where to report Social security Income received from China

Hi,

Have a client who is a resident (not citizen of USA) for tax purposes, he received Social security income from the government which is not taxable under US-China Tax Treaty article 17.

I want to report on Sch 1 part I as other income,  and then enter the amount on Schedule 1 part II as adjustment to income so the net taxable income is zero.

But I could not enter it as other adjustment on Part II line 24z, the system error I got:  The IRS instructions state Schedule 1 line 24z should be blank. Remove any existing input below.

Could anyone help?

How would I report this? Or not report at all?

Thanks!

Report as pension income with none of it taxable? I think I've done that with at least one foreign Social Security, but it wasn't China.

Report two Other Income items:

Chinese Social Security    $XXXXXX

Chinese SS not taxable  - $XXXXXX

Answers are easy. Questions are hard!

Why would it be different from any other exempt income?  If a client receives a personal-injury settlement, you don't add it in and then subtract it out.

But you should probably explain it with a Form 8833.  (See Instructions, "Exceptions," but it's always a good idea to leave footprints for those who follow.)

Hi, That was where I entered the Social security Income from China since the Income adjustment is not allowed any input.

Thanks!
