Why can I not efile an Amended Federal Return when I had an overpayment on the originally filed return?

The original return had an overpayment applied to 2023 of $3,846.  The client failed to provide a W2 and I amended the return which reduced the overpayment by $667.  I could not reduce the amount of the overpayment, so I instead had the client pay the $667.  I still get a diagnostic Code IND-082 with -

"Error Message: If 'OwedAmt' in the return has a value greater than zero, then 'RefundAmt' must be equal to zero if an amount is entered."
"Solution: Please verify that an overpayment has been calculated on the Form 1040X, line 21. If an overpayment has not been calculated, please do not check the box "Apply overpayment to 20XX estimated tax". Review the reason for the reject. If necessary make the appropriate change and re-submit this return electronically. However, if the reject continues you may want to file this return via U.S. Mail. To file your return, print it and mail it to the appropriate taxing authority."

Has anyone been able to overcome this rejected efile circumstance?  Your help is greatly appreciated!

Change your input to show that the overpayment isn't being applied forward. That will uncheck the box on the 1040X.

Thanks for the response.

I changed the applied overpayment and got this upon transmitting the efile -

E-file Transmission Failure

The amended return cannot be accepted while the status of the original filing is unknown. Please wait to file your amended return until the original return status has been returned. Problem occurred transmitting efile data

Any ideas why?
