Tax payment

My client made a tax payment in July but didn't file until today 10/09/24. But ProConnect won't calculate a penalty because it shows the tax as paid even though I put a paid date. Is there another way to enter payments besides the estimates screen that will calculate a penalty or do I need to enter the penalty manually.

You would need to input an override for the penalty. MY PREFERENCE - Tell the client an approximate number and let them know IRS will send them their calculation. If it is significantly different, contact you, but otherwise just pay it. I would have for the client to get a bill for $2, because you were off a day or two from the date IRS received the payment.

Not enough information here.  Did he pay $500, but now he's getting a refund of $600 so the July payment doesn't really matter?  What penalty are you asking about -- late filing, or late payment?  Is he within the 90% rule anyway, without the July payment?
