double Billing for processing

Periodically, I have new clients that were previously with a tax preparer that was also using Lacerte.

In order to avoid reprocessing the prior year information, I would get a copy of the Lacerte File from the prior accountant and use this copy to proforma for the new year.  However, recently I have been charged a processing fee for downloading this prior year return.  How do I avoid this charge which had already been paid by the prior accountant?

Who is charging you?

ProConnect charges if you  print or e-file a return you have converted. You can massage and check return by looking at forms, but once you try and print there is a fee.

Lacerte does similar. You can restore returns prepared by another preparer, but once you try to do anything with them and you accept a new REP, you get charged.

You should probably call support and speak with them.

This is a user forum and you will only get crummy advise like this from other users, like me. We can't do billing. We have no authority. We just try to get you pointed in the right direction.

When you post, make sure you select the correct software. This is under ProConnect, but you reference Lacerte.
