A single client passed away in 2024. We are now filing her Tax return for 2023, she was alive in 2023 so we are filing a regular 1040 for her. Her son will be the representative/executor once he gets the letters of administration from the surrogate’s court but it takes time and he will not have it by April 15th.
1)Can he still sign the return and take the refund or does he need to wait for the letters?
2) if we extend her tax return to wait for the letters, proconnect is not allowing me to efile the extension, is it ok if I just take her date of death out and file the extension? or do I file her extension on the IRS.gov make a payment link?
3) Can I use her son's bank account to pay her tax with the extension?
4) Is it mandatory to paper file an extension for a decease and send a check?
Thank you!
