SOLE PROPRIETOR FILING

I need some advise.

I have a customer that I am filing a sole proprietor schedule C. She is married so I put Married filing separate. Her husband filed there taxes as Married filing Joint. Proserious rejected her return because it say's her name and SS# was used on another return. Is there another way for me to file her return or does her husband have to amend his return so i can resubmit hers?

Thank you in advance

The MFJ return has to be amended to include her Sch C income.

The MFJ return is theirs, not his.

The more I know, the more I don't know.

yes, but she wants to do her schedule C separate from his W-2 wages. She wants to keep her business income separate.

So the only way would be to amend MFJ to MFS and then do her schedule C on a MFS return.

Yes. And it needs to done by October 16, if the original MFJ was extended. Otherwise she is SOL.

She can keep the income separate by using a separate bank account, which a business should do anyway.

I suspect this is not what you mean.

And he is going to have sign an amended return, and probably pay tax. MFS is usually more expensive. Good luck with that.

FYI-she had to sign that MFJ return, too.

The more I know, the more I don't know.
