Improve Remote Desktop performance

PCI-PSW

For months Lacerte has been running very poorly for multiple customers on Remote Desktop Servers.

All different hardware, firm sizes, client sizes etc.

We have reached out to support and they keep trying to troubleshoot that specific system, which I understand is how they handle their requests. The issue is bigger and needs to be addressed by the Dev team. We have 4 customers of our own, 4 different sized accounting firms that all have the same exact issue with lacerate on 3 completely separate networks.

The networks are all relatively new, gigabit switches and internet service etc.

The issues all of our customers are facing is that when they go to open Lacerte or do any type of calculation, it takes significantly longer on the Terminal Server. Sometimes even on their local computers when they are using lacerte it is slow, however it is consistently slow on the RDS. The servers are capable of handling well over what they are being used for, as an example, one server has enough resources to handle over 25 users with high specs, each user would have 1.2 processors along with 8gbs of memory per session, but only 15-17 people actually use the Terminal Server and even if only 1 session is logged in using lacerte the performance issue occurs. We are tired of Lacerte support blaming hardware, as the server mentioned above is less than 1 year old!

I thought Lacerte doesn't support use on a Terminal server, unless it is RightNetworks hosting.

@sjrcpa

If Lacerte wasn't supported on Terminal Servers, why would there be instructions on how to install it.

@nhazzard Good point. Obviously I am not up to date on this.

What version of Windows Server are you running? If 2016 or newer, look into TS-Fair Share options. Windows slows down the performance of each session so that everyone has a consistent session, but Lacerte requires more in burst performance. Once these options are disabled, the performance is far more manageable. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/remote/fair-share-enabled-by-default-i...

@pnlcpa I do not check this, but I appreciate the tip. We are running 2019, and we are going to try this.
