Identity Protection PINs are something that is going to be the norm as opposed to being a rare occurrence now that everyone can get them and the IRS is recommending that taxpayers get them.
Two things Lacerte should add relating to IP PINS.
1) Create an informational diagnostic in the subsequent year if the taxpayer, spouse or dependent had and IP PIN in the prior year. This will be huge so we don't have to try to track down the IP PIN after the tax return rejects.
2) Many of our clients now have IP PINS and will have to log onto the IRS website each January to obtain the IP PIN for that filing year. It would be great if there was an exportable field for the IPPINS so that we can run a report with the people who have IP PINS so that we can send them a letter or a postcard reminding them to log into the IRS website to obtain the new IP PIN.
Thanks for the idea. We are changing the status to "Open for voting" since it has been around for over 30 days and no longer considered "New". If you have any questions on the life cycle of an idea, check out our Idea Exchange Getting Started Guide for more information.
