Taxpayer filing 1040 signed 8879 on 12-9-20. Today return will not transmit, get error that taxpayer signature date must be in current year 2021. What is the solution?

Note that the IRS 1040 e-file system was not open 11-21-20 through 2-11-21.

Using today's date seems even wilder than running with really sharp pair scissors but sometimes you just have to go for it.

Explain the problem to the client and ask them to sign again?

I just put a note on the form in my file that says "used 2/12/2021 as signature date so it would efile."

The more I know, the more I don't know.
