State Tax Minnesota Non Resident

TampaBayCPA
Level 1

Client is a FL resident, has wages reported in MN. They are a non-resident for MN purposes, they only worked in MN for 13 days.

Their W2 shows a figure that they want to adjust downward and prorate by the 13 days. Is this the correct treatment? I am concerned that MN is expecting to see the full amount reported on the W2 for the state? Or are you supposed to adjust that portion?

It is not clear on the MN site or within the non-resident instructions.

If the W-2 shows all of the wages as MN wages, your client needs to get the employer to correct the W-2.
