I have found that generally dashes are not entered.
If all ID begin with PT, then the PT may not be entered.
I don't do Hawaii, so just some speculation.
When you find the solution, PLEASE POST IT.
Thank you for your suggestion. Still does not work. I've wasted a lot of time trying different ways to enter it in the field so that it will take. I can only presume it's a bug.
Are you using the SSN as the missing digits?
Are you sure you have the proper number?
Have you read the instructions for the form you are filing?
For Individual:
Hawaii Tax Identification Number
If you are operating a business or practicing a profession as a sole proprietorship in Hawaii, enter your Hawaii Tax Identification Number for this activity.
If you are not operating a business or practicing a profession as a sole proprietorship in Hawaii, and do not have a Hawaii Tax Identification Number for this activity, leave the boxes blank.
Entered HI Tax ID that was provided by the state of HI for a partnership.
The number is in the format:
PT-XXX-XXX-XXX-XX
Yet, a critical e-file diagnostic is generated, "Hawaii tax identification number is invalid. The tax ID number starts with a two letter text prefix representing the tax type, and then a twelve digit number. (ref. #52458)
I entered the number with and without the dashes, and numerous other ways and could not clear the critical diagnostic.
Contacted support and was told to Disable e-file Error, under e-file Support Tools.
