State Income Tax Returns for Consolidated 1120

I am using 2023 Lacerte for the first time - for a client that I cannot prepare in ProSeries (as ProSeries will not e-file a consolidate return).

I have successfully prepared/e-filed the 2023 consolidated 1120.

I am now trying to prepare (and eventually e-file) the 2023 consolidated California SIT.

I believe I have downloaded the state module (as I was able to enter information for California).  However, after entering the adjustments, allocation and ES payment info, I cannot find the return (using the "forms" option - or when attempting to print).  As well, when I tried to pay the REP (assuming that was the hold up), it only acknowledges the REP as paid for the 1120.

What am I missing?

I spoke with Lacerte support after posting my question.  The answer is:

The states must be complete to e-file with the 1120.  Once the 1120 has been e-filed, the states are no longer available to prepare or e-file.  I have about 40 state returns to prepare for this 1120 client - and was unaware of this requirement.

I caution anyone else preparing a consolidated 1120 to NOT e-file until all of the state tax returns are complete and ready to e-file.  You only get once chance.

Here is the information on doing the return https://accountants.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/corporation/create-consolidated-corporate-...

If you continue to have problems, reach out to support.  https://proconnect.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/taxation/contact-lacerte-help/L4c6BR3CZ_US_...

This forum is personned (my new replacement to manned) by other users and generally not by paid Lacerte employees. If you have specific issues, we can try to help.

I think you may not have added CA in Screen 1 top left. The REP is for the 1120 and the one state you paid for when you signed up. If you are a CA user, it should have included the CA. I am not real conversant with consolidated returns.

Unfortunately this is one of the best ways to learn.

BEEN THERE. DONE THAT.

Sorry for your experience.

I would suggest that you look at ProConnect for this. Depending on what you purchased, you could be looking at large REP fees for all the extra returns you need to create. ProConnect is a very similar (but a bit clunkier) version of Lacerte Online. It includes all the states in your package, not just the one you sign up with like Lacerte.

You can try it for free. DO NOT PRINT or E-FILE. With Check Return you can see all the forms with no fee.  Use your current user name and password to sign in https://ito.intuit.com/app/protax/welcome
