Hi all.
Edited to add: The paragraph shows up on the form "Federal Supplemental Info," and the CPA says that won't work because it was originally shown as a Federal Statement.
In preparing a 1040-X for a client who is new to us, we need to add an explanatory paragraph that appeared as a Federal Statement on the1040 that another firm prepared. However, when I go to what we think should be the right place - Screen 47/"Notes" - it doesn't work. We choose the "Statements" button on the left and type in the paragraph, then go to Forms view, and there is no statement. As a test, we tried typing it under the "Worksheets" button, but the input doesn't show up on a Worksheet, either. (Anything we input at the Misc 1 and Misc 2 buttons on Screen 47 DOES show up on the letter.)
I've searched the knowledgebase and get nothing at all responsive to this. Only thing close was about input for Screen 45a, and the answer there was that the form itself had not yet been released; that can't be the case here.
I know it must be possible, not only because the other preparer's software did it, but because Lacerte Screen 47 SHOWS "Statements" as one of the choices. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Describe it with the explanation and say that originally it appeared as a Statement.
I rarely use Statements or Notes so I don't know how to create them.
See if it shows up under the tab (at the bottom, when you go to "Forms") that says Client Notes. The header then shows "Federal Supplemental Information". I can't guarantee that it goes with the efile, especially with an amended return.
Edit... You do have to select "statement" not worksheet as you previously mentioned.
Thanks for the idea! I will suggest this to the CPA...
Thanks for taking time to reply, abctax. I think that may be another reason the CPA wants it to show as a statement - thinking the Supplemental Info page won't be there - but I will ask her that. (We did the Worksheet just to see if anything on that screen besides the Misc letter notes worked at all, but thanks for the note.)
