when my 2024 Lacerte opens - Lacerte has an advertisement for their hosting services and it locks my computer screen - closing with task manager is only option I have

The screen is expecting a response in the *&%%% pop up box. You can calmly use Alt Tab to find the box. Click somewhere in the box. Hold shift and roll the mouse to be able to see the itty bitty x to close the box.
They are aware what a mess they have created and they are working on it. In the meantime, join the crowd to YELL - ENOUGH WITH THE ADS!!!!!

We had a problem where that pop up box X to close it was the problem. Had to move the cursor up above the X a bit until the box changed color. Then could close. How fun ;-(
