I entered the information from a 1099-Q that WAS NOT used for education, so the earnings should be taxable. The result is that nothing appears on the return as taxable after entering this information. I tried putting nothing, a -1, and $10 in the tuition line item and nothing changes.

what were your entries? This generated $2,000 income
I checked the box that the recipient is not the designated beneficiary. The recipient are the parents who put the money in and the beneficiary would be the daughter who is no longer in school. The box on the form is checked concerning that.
I got it figured out. I had the beneficiary section filled in with the taxpayers name etc. Once I removed that, it worked. That automatically populated and I had checked the box, so the software was probably confused!
