Can I e-file a return for a deceased taxpayer without including form 1310 and then prepare and mail form 1310 separately?

It probably won't pass efile validation. You can try.

The more I know, the more I don't know.

Why do you want to Two Step? Waltzing to the real process is much more efficient.

So you want to e-file the return to speed up the processing time.  Then you want mail in the 1310 so it can go into one of those piles of unopened mail the IRS is still sifting through that will in effect put the return on hold forever and three days?  Is that the general idea?
