IRS website glitches using IRS DIRECT PAY

IRS Direct Pay Issues ... anyone else experiencing these:

1) I enter the SS# as 9 whole digits, and the website then enters hyphens, and then when I try to proceed gives me an error message not to enter hyphens. After multiple attempts I tried to move to NEXT with the hyphens there and for some reason it was OK to have hyphens and it actually went forward. The hyphens were not an option, the website added them before then rejecting the data ... for having hyphens. 

2) Clients last name was Brown. Typed it, and confirmed it, and the website gave me error message the last names didn't match. Redid it three times and got the error message each time. I am not typing Brown wrong over and over. 

3) Jointly filed return. Used the husband's name, reentering it multiple times, (it's listed first on the return) and got repeated messages that "identity couldn't be verified - please try again or try a different year". Exasperated I used the spouses name and info and it went right through. 

I tried Chrome, Bing, Edge and Duck Duck browsers, and all got the same results and error messages denying the ability to continue on with the process. 

Anyone else fighting this? When I used it a couple of weeks ago, from the same computer, using the same Chrome browser, it went through perfectly and was no problem. Note: Client in question is my best friend, and I had his tax return in front of me the whole time. I was not entering the data incorrectly, nor was I using any auto-entry data inclusions.

My FTB news email from this morning reminds people that "For payments submitted through FTB's Web Pay application, include only the numeric digits. The Web Pay application will display an error message if dashes, spaces, or alpha characters are entered."
