How do I allocate other deductions to taxable and tax exempt income for NY? NYS IT-205 deducts full amount. using "State if Different" doesn't work.

Fiduciary income tax return -  I have other deductions allocated to taxable and tax exempt income on input screen 32. They are appropriately allocated on 1041 but not on NYS IT-205 where the full amount is deducted. However, total deductions on NY return calculates based on federal allocated other deductions. Entering the federal allocated amount in "State if Different" does not change NYS return. Federal return has been efiled and New York rejected with math error as NYS deductions don't add up to the total. Any suggestions?

Could you get the correct result by using NY additions to or subtractions from income to adjust for these expenses?

The more I know, the more I don't know.
