I am preparing an individual tax return for 2023. The taxpayer filed an extension on 4/9/24. However, the payment due was made 6/18/24. The program diagnostic said that I needed to compute the interest & penalties manually and those amounts in the penalties and interest section. The only amounts due were the interest and penalties.
When I did this, I got a diagnostic stating that "Per the e-file Business Rules, the payment amount on the IRS Payment record must not be more than 200% of the amount on Form 1040, amount you owe.
I called Lacerte, they told me to enter the amounts for interest & penalties manually, to check the diagnostic box to cancel the diagnostic & tell the program to disregard the diagnostic.
I tried doing that but when I tried to efile the returns the program would not let me do so since it still had the critical diagnostic.
What do I need to do to efile this return?
