CA efile rejects - says program update yet on current version

Anyone else having issues with efile rejects of only CA returns with Error 54, Validation Failure Code 1702 stating that there is a newer version of the tax software.  Yet when you go to update states are on the most recent version?  On hold with Lacerte now.  Stumped the support person.  Fearing alone or a new issue?

Lacerte support had me reinstall updates.  The weirdest thing was I could file an LLC CA return, just not individuals.  All better

I had problems with updates in January. Not the one you mentioned.  So I decided to go to Hosting. And I haven't had problems with updates since.

Surely, the many update problems are not attempt to drive users to hosting?  Is there any end to customer fee extractions?

For a solo like me, $125 is a value.  YMMV

TBF, I have had the same thought as you.  It would not be beyond Intuit to do as you suggest.

I'm getting that CA error message!!!  Annoying!!!   The last 3 tax returns I tried to file CA is rejected... 1702... and I'm totally updated.   HEAVY SIGH.  This tax season has been ridiculously fraught with tech issues.   I'm seriously considering just ENDING my journey in the tax profession, after 43 years.   I am sick to death of spending two hours a day on TECH.  My profession is as a tax professional, E.A. I DON'T WANT TO BE IN THE TECH BUSINESS AND I CAN'T CHARGE MY CLIENTS FOR ME being IN THE TECH PROFESSION.

AND FURTHER I AM not GOING TO HIRE AN IT PROFESSIONAL.   CAN'T AFFORD IT.  I guess we will soon all be leaving our small businesses to the BIG BUSINESSES that can afford this baloney.

There is always pencil & paper and mailing off a signed photo copy to the government. Surely you have done that in your 43 years.

REMEMBER the days of TIME SHARE for just using a computer service??? Same kind of thing. My deceased husband was in that time share biz (huge failure of a biz).   Hosting is dumb

very funny.   NOPE.  Am not going to receive and pay penalties for not filing electronically.    I am seriously close to DONE with all this. Thanks Lacerte!  (I have lost my sense of humor today.   SO tired of tech issues.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!   Called Lacerte and a tech helped me force an update.  I NOW can electronic file my CA tax returns.  THANK YOU TECH (yep she can't see that here so I told her myself).   I have further relief in knowing I AM NOT ALONE (or likely not even in a minority) ON THE TECH ISSUES I HAVE HAD ALL of the 2024 filing season here in 2025.   Why am I relieved?  Because if most everyone is going through this nonsense, Lacerte will fix the issues before the next filing season, and perhaps our faith can be restored in what has been for so long an exceptional service!  I wasted two hours today on tech today and that has NOT been unusual this filing season. Have not even gotten to working on tax returns for my clients today, nor to the special problems for a couple of them.   Am now going to take a head space break for a couple hours and come back here and electronic tax filings!    sheesh.    For anyone having the same problem I had today... give the tech a call and do a forced re-update.

one additional note: I have a super fast computer system.   So fixing my issue was quick.   For those of you with a SLOW system, your correction could take as long as four hours, so bring your patience with you, or a nice adult beverage or something to chill.  😉
