Preparing a 1040 X for 2025 filing (superseded return) the additional capital gains reduces the senior deduction. Critical diagnostic states net change can't be negative. Do I really need to file on paper?

Probably not. See if you can suppress the diagnostic. Some of the "critical" diagnostics in Lacerte are "ghost errors," and this one sounds like one of them.
"E-File" menu > "e-file support tools" > "Disable e-file error..."
