Have a client that Lived in DC in 2024 from 1/1/24 to 4/19/24 then moved to CA for the rest of 2024 and domiciled there. He and wife had 2024 total income of ~250K. In addition, Wife had unemployment benefits from DC but not paid until after they moved to CA.. Does ALL the income get taxed by CA [except the unemployment income] and a credit to the CA return from the DC withholding apply here?
But doesn't the fact that they are considered domiciled in CA from April 20 on say that CA takes the full Income for the year and then gets a DC credit for withholding in DC? Seems like the CA FTB thinks that way?
